India produced a strong evening on the track as Parul won bronze in the women’s 5000m, Gulveer secured silver in the men’s 1500m and Ramraj claimed bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles. Ramraj’s performance was especially significant, as she bettered PT Usha’s long-standing 55.42-second mark from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, with Usha present in the stands as Indian Olympic Association chief.
